Bayern Munich unlikely to sign João Cancelo this summer

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are unlikely to sign João Cancelo from Manchester City this summer.

The Manchester City loanee has featured heavily since joining in the winter, albeit mainly from the bench. However, if the player were to make Munich his permanent home, Bayern would have to pay €70m. This is a fee which is simply too high for Bayern bosses.

The club is working on possibly getting the defender for a slightly lesser price, however, they know it’s unlikely. The Portuguese international himself doesn’t believe he’ll be playing for Bayern next season.

Since joining in the winter, Cancelo has played in 19 competitive matches for Bayern, scoring once and providing six assists.

With Bayern targeting mainly forward-thinking players this summer, they can’t afford to spend upwards of €70m on a full-back. Should City reconsider a lower price, the situation may change. However, the likelihood is that Cancelo will return to Manchester in the summer.
