As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are looking to open talks with Chelsea for a move regarding goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
As previously understood, the reigning German champions are on the hunt for a new shot-stopper due to the injury sustained by Manuel Neuer and the sale of Yann Sommer to Inter Milan. The 28-year-old will be seen as Sommer’s replacement, where he will play as the understudy to the Bayern number one.
However, the Spaniard will be brought directly into the limelight at the beginning of the campaign while Neuer continues to recover from surgery. The Rekordmeister have already spoken to Kepa’s management and are now working on a deal that will see the goalkeeper join on loan with a future option to buy.
Talks with Chelsea are now understood to be scheduled, as Bayern look to get this deal over the line. A player recommended by head coach Thomas Tuchel, the Bayern hierarchy are said to be impressed with the goalkeeper’s quality and character.
The record champions are looking to act quickly due to the nature in which they lost out to other targets such as David Raya and Robert Sánchez. However, if a deal for Kepa does fall through, then Ajax’s Gerónimo Rulli is considered to be a possible alternative.
