Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli will miss the beginning of the 2023/24 season

As reported by Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli is set to miss the start of the 2023/24 campaign due to the attacker receiving a ban from the DFB sports court on Tuesday.

Adli was sent off in the eighth minute against VfL Bochum on matchday 34 as he was judged to have stepped back onto Bochum defender Dominique Heintz. Referee Tobias Welz was left with no choice but to hand out a red card and send Adli off.

The DFB sports court decided that Adli should miss the first three games of the new season due to his actions in Die Werkself’s 0-3 defeat. Adli’s suspension will see him return in September, but he will be allowed to feature in the DFB-Pokal first round.

It could be a significant loss for Xabi Alonso’s side as the Frenchman has proved to be one of the Bundesliga’s breakout stars this season. In 38 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions, Adli has scored seven goals and collected three assists.

It will be a season in which Adli will be expected to step up for Die Werkself. With constant reports linking Moussa Diaby and other key offensive players away from Leverkusen, Adli would be required to fill any void left by those departing.
