Bayern Munich and Harry Kane reach breakthrough in contract negotiations

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement in principle over a new contract. The German record champions have been looking to extend the England captain’s stay for some time.

According to Sky Germany, the 33-year-old striker and Bayern have made a breakthrough in negotiations over an extension that would keep him at the club until 2029. The contract has not yet been signed, with some final details still to be clarified.

Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 in a club-record deal. Despite losing the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen in his first season, he scored 36 league goals and provided eight assists. He won his first Bundesliga title in the 2024/25 season before helping Bayern secure the domestic double last season.

Kane scored 73 goals for club and country during the 2025/26 campaign and is among the leading contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or. Victory would make him the first Bayern player to win the award since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who claimed it in both 1980 and 1981.

Kane would also become only the second Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or while playing for a German club, following former Hamburger SV star Kevin Keegan, who won the award in 1978 and 1979.
