Leon Goretzka plans Bayern Munich stay

With reports linking Declan Rice with Bayern Munich, Leon Goretzka’s role in the Rekordmeister’s midfield has been threatened.

However, as reported by Abendzeitung, the German international sees himself fitting in alongside the current West Ham midfielder and his usual midfield partner Joshua Kimmich in a 4-3-3. He has no plans on finding a route out of Bavaria and is willing to fight for his role in the side.

In addition to this, Goretzka’s relationship is considered to be positive with head coach Thomas Tuchel. He has not yet received any indication from the Bayern boss that he is not in his future plans.

The issue arising for Goretzka would be that Thomas Müller would be demanding a starting role in the supposed three-man midfield. This would leave him having to duel with the more defensive-minded Kimmich.

Goretzka has been utilised further back than usual this season which has prevented him from displaying his usual attacking output. Nevertheless, he has been able to contribute 12 goals and assists so far this campaign from 40 appearances.

With Ryan Gravenberch and Marcel Sabitzer currently the other midfielders contracted to Bayern, the arrival of Konrad Laimer will add further problems to their midfield dilemma. There certainly will be tricky decisions coming the way of the Bayern executives this summer, as to who will be receiving their necessary game time.
