Yann Sommer offered a new deal at Borussia Mönchengladbach

According to Sky Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach have offered Yann Sommer a new lucrative 3-year deal at the club.

Sommer’s contract is due to expire in 2023 and has been heavily linked with a move to French side Nice where former Gladbach coach Lucien Favre is now in charge.

Despite French media reports saying the deal was nearly done, Sky Germany reports that the goalkeeper has now received a reasonable 3-year deal to stay as Gladbach’s number one. This news has quickly followed reports that Nice had offered €2.5m for the goalkeeper

When asked earlier in the week if he could see himself remaining at Gladbach, Sommer replied: “Of course I can imagine that.” The 33-year-old now has the ball in his court so to speak. He can accept the new deal or choose to head to France and be reunited with Favre.

Head coach Daniel Farke recently highlighted the importance of the goalkeeper: “I’m glad that Yann Sommer is joining us in the middle of next week. He’s an outstanding goalkeeper and a great guy, a shining light for Borussia. It’s important that we have him with us in the group. I am happy that he is coming to us soon.”

Gladbach will want this transfer saga to end quickly so they and the player can focus on an important season ahead.
