Diogo Leite set to join Union Berlin on loan

Kicker have confirmed a report by Pedro Sepúlveda that Portuguese central-defender Diogo Leite (23) will join Bundesliga side Union Berlin from Porto. Leite is expected to travel to Germany on Friday before undergoing a medical check after spending last season on loan at Braga.

Union will pay Porto a reported €500,000 loan fee and they also have an option to purchase the former Portuguese youth international for a reported €7.5m. Leite has two-years remaining on his current deal.

A product of Porto’s youth academy, Leite has played 51 games across all competitions and whilst primarily a central-defender, can also provide cover on the left-side.

Union Berlin have been fairly active this summer. Tim Skarke, Milos Pantovic, Paul Seguin, Janik Haberer and Danilho Doekhi have all join the club on free transfers. Die Eisernen have also spent €4m on Jamie Leweling (21) from Greuther Fürth and Jordan Siebatcheu (26) from BSC Young Boys for a reported €6m, strengthening their attack following the departure of Taiwo Awoniyi to Nottingham Forest.
