Werder Bremen and Niclas Füllkrug move towards agreement for contract extension

Werder Bremen and Niclas Füllkrug have taken a step closer to reaching an agreement for a contract extension beyond 2023, according to Deich Stube.

“There are very, very good talks,” said sporting director Frank Baumann. “Both sides know what they have in each other. In this respect, I am confident that we will find a solution. But even then you might need a little more patience.”

Füllkrug scored 19 and created eight in 33 2. Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen last season as they returned to the top flight at the first time of asking. The 29-year-old joined SVW in 2019 from Hannover and has contributed 42 goals (32 goals, 10 assists) in 88 games across all competitions.

Werder Bremen have been relatively busy this summer with the arrivals of Niklas Stark, Amos Pieper, Lee Buchanan and Oliver Burke on free transfers whilst Jens Stage joined the Bundesliga club from Copenhagen for a reported €4m.
