Timo Werner waived €18m to join RB Leipzig

As reported by Bild, Timo Werner will earn around €10m per year at RB Leipzig, becoming the club’s highest earner alongside Christopher Nkunku (24).

The 26-year-old took a pay cut on his €16m salary at Chelsea to join his former club, meaning that he waived €18m of his salary given his Chelsea contract ran until 2025.

Werner completed his move from Chelsea to RB Leipzig on Tuesday for a reported €30m including bonuses, the Germany international has signed a four-year deal until 2026.

The German’s move was made official hours after Leipzig announced that Benjamin Šeško (19) would join the Bundesliga club from RB Salzburg in 2023.

During his first spell at Leipzig, Werner scored 90 and created 40 across 156 games in all competitions. At Chelsea, he scored 23 and created 21 in 89 games.

Werner took part in his first training session on Wednesday morning and is expected to be in RB Leipzig’s squad to face FC Köln on Saturday afternoon.
