RB Leipzig have today announced the signing of Timo Werner from Chelsea for a reported €30m including bonuses. The 26-year-old Germany international has signed a four-year deal until 2026.
A total agreement was reached over the weekend with Chelsea receiving an initial €19.5m which can rise to around €30m through bonuses.
Werner scored four and created one in 21 Premier League games last season for Chelsea, down from his six goals and 12 assists in 35 games during the 2020/21 campaign.
Hansi Flick has constantly stated that if players are to make his Germany squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then they must be playing regular football, something that wasn’t guaranteed at Chelsea.
The 26-year-old’s first spell at Leipzig was his most successful in professional football. Before leaving for Chelsea two years ago for €53m, Werner scored 90 goals and provided 40 assists in 152 games for the Saxons.
