Talks between RB Leipzig and Chelsea for Trevoh Chalobah begin

RB Leipzig are stepping up their efforts to sign Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah (23), according to Bild. Negotiations between the two clubs started in the last few hours as the Bundesliga side look to strengthen their defence.

After three games, RB Leipzig are winless. Central-defenders Willi Orban and Josko Gvardiol have resumed team training but Lukas Klostermann is absent. Speaking on the situation, head coach Domenico Tedesco said: “We only have five players for three positions, we’ll see who would immediately help us.”

A transfer from within the Bundesliga is ruled out and so RB Leipzig are expected to scout the foreign market. Chalobah (contract until 2026), who can operate in a variety of defensive positions, would be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan but only should they sign a replacement, namely Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana.

Another arrival before the September 1 deadline isn’t ruled out. Bild further add that RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has excellent contacts within the Premier League at Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
