Simon Rolfes on Moussa Diaby: “Moussa would have been nominated for any other national team in the world.”

As per a report by Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has praised Moussa Diaby’s recent run of form and believes that the Frenchman would have gotten into any other country’s starting XI for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Diaby was at his best once again last weekend when he scored a superb goal in B04’s win against VfB Stuttgart. The 23-year-old glided past several Stuttgart players before his shot took a wicked deflection and me. Sometimes you create your own luck.

Rolfes believes that Diaby was very unlucky not to be included in France’s World Cup squad and believes it shows the strength of French footballers right now.

The sporting director explained: “But with the French, it’s incredible what quality they have up front and also in defence, masses of world-class players. That’s why it’s really a shame for him, but also a special incentive: If he manages to get in there, he’s made another giant step.”

Rolfes ended his statement by saying: “Moussa would have been nominated for any other national team in the world. And probably also in the starting XI.”

One thing is for sure, not many other countries would have left him home this winter.

Another Bundesliga player that will be representing France at the World Cup is Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram after Didier Deschamps called the 25-year-old up to the squad earlier today.
