Predicted Augsburg and Bayern Munich DFB Pokal starting XI

Earlier this season, Enrico Maaßen’s Augsburg shocked the league by winning the Bavarian derby against Bayern Munich 1-0. Wednesday’s second DFB clash is a replay of the derby as Julian Naggelsmann’s team will be looking for revenge.

This round of the competition has been somewhat of a curse for Bayern in recent years. The last time they actually got through the second round was back in 2019 against Bochum when Niko Kovač was in charge. This is a head-scratching stat for Bayern and one which they will hope to get rid off when they travel to the Augsburg Arena.

In terms of availability for this one, Bayern Munich have quite a few regulars missing. Leroy Sané is the most recent player to join the injury list as he sustained a hamstring injury against Freiburg last weekend. Noussair Mazraoui is suffering from muscular issues and is a doubt for the game, while Manuel Neuer has been ruled out due to shoulder pain. The likes of Lucas Hernandez are still sidelined and Thomas Müller is not yet fit enough to start.

It’s a similar story for Augsburg in terms of injuries. Their list includes Tobias Strobl, Reece Oxford, Niklas Dorsch, Andre Hahn, and more.

Here is how both teams could line up on Wednesday evening:

Bayern Munich

Ulreich – Pavard, Upamecano, de Ligt, Davies – Kimmich, Goretzka – Gnabry, Musiala, Mané – Choupo-Moting.

Augsburg

Gikiewicz – Gumny, Bauer, Gouweleeuw, Iago – Rexhbecaj, Gruezo – Vargas, Demirovic – Berisha, Niederlechner.
