Leroy Sané sidelined indefinitely for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich today confirm that Leroy Sané (26) suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s 5-0 win against Freiburg on Sunday evening with no timeline on a potential return.

A statement on the club’s website read:

“FC Bayern will be without Leroy Sane for the time being. The 26-year-old suffered a torn muscle fibre in the back of his left thigh during the 5-0 home win against Freiburg on Sunday evening. This was the result of examinations by the medical department of the German record champions.”

Sané scored Bayern’s third goal against Freiburg on Sunday, a goal similar to one that you would see Arjen Robben often score. The 26-year-old has significantly improved this season following criticism less than 18 months ago. Sané has scored 10 and created six in 16 games across all competitions for Bayern.

After missing out on the 2018 World Cup to Julian Brandt, Sané is expected to be in Hansi Flick’s plans for the 2022 World Cup next month.
