Christopher Vivell has been named the new technical director of Chelsea

The Premier League club were keen on signing the 35-year-old who was last employed at RB Leipzig as their technical director. During his time at Leipzig, Vivell coordinated the strategic side of squad building and recruitment among the wider Red Bull Football Group. 

Before his time at Leipzig, Vivell spent five years at the Saxon’s sister club RB Salzburg in Austria where he fulfilled similar duties such as scouting and recruitment. Prior to his time spent in the Red Bull Football Club, Vivell started as a scout for fellow Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim. 

Following the appointment, Vivell released a statement on Chelsea’s website saying: Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club. There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow.” 

Likewise, the club’s chairman Todd Boehly said: “We are delighted that Christopher is taking up this important leadership role at the club. His work in Germany and Austria speaks for itself. We are confident he will continue on his impressive trajectory here at Chelsea. He will provide important support to Graham and the ownership group and play a vital part in advancing our overall vision for the club.”

Chelsea are currently 8th in the Premier League which is due to restart on December 26th. Vivell will watch his new club play Bournemouth at home on the 27th as they aim to get back into the Champions League place.
