Speaking on the future of central defender Nico Schlotterbeck, Freiburg CEO Jochen Saier told Sky Germany that clubs had shown concrete interest in signing the 22-year-old in January.
“There were big clubs [interested],” said Saier. “It was clear to us that we wouldn’t let him go in the winter. In the summer, there’s definitely a possibility.”
After Freiburg’s 1-1 draw against Mainz, Schlotterbeck also discussed his future: “There’s a lot of talk about me at the moment. I don’t like it that much because it’s about the club. I want to have a successful season with Freiburg.”
Although no clubs have been named, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United had all shown an interest in signing Schlotterbeck during the winter.
