Monza in negotiations to sign Josip Brekalo

According to Fabrizio Romano, Josip Brekalo is set to leave Wolfsburg in January with a move to Italy likely. Talks between Wolfsburg and Monza progressing and there’s also been negotiations on the player’s side.

Brekalo last featured for Wolfsburg in their 4-0 win against Bochum in October but has been on the bench for the majority of the games. Overall, Brekalo has 22 goals at Wolfsburg but has never looked like the player he promised to be when he first joined from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016.

The Croatian has been on loan twice during his spell, first at VfB Stuttgart but last season he spent on loan in Italy at Torino, scoring seven times in 33 games for them as they finished 10th.

The 24-year-old also missed out on the World Cup despite being called up to represent Croatia in the Nations League at the end of last season, but due to his lack of play time missed out on getting to Qatar.

Wolfsburg currently finds themselves seventh and after a poor start to the season, they slowly managed to gain form under Niko Kovac and look like a much-improved side compared to last season.
