Max Eberl will try to keep Konrad Laimer at RB Leipzig

Speaking to ServusTV, Max Eberl has stated his desire to keep Konrad Laimer at RB Leipzig despite the midfielder’s reported agreement with Bayern Munich.

In his interview, Eberl said: “Konny is a great player with great development. We’re trying to keep him in Leipzig. He still has six months on his contract. It’s going to be difficult talks.” This comes after Sky Germany had reported an agreement between Laimer and Bayern for a move in the summer of 2023. Laimer had previously spoken to Kicker about his situation: “Nothing is decided and nothing is excluded, I’m an open guy who makes sure that he leaves his comfort zone sometimes. I always want to expand my performance limit and make the best of it get everything out.”

Eberl took over as Leipzig sporting director at the beginning of December and was quick to act with the contract extension to Mohammed Simakan but he will continue to have challenges to keep other players with Christopher Nkunku expected to leave and the likes of Dani Olmo’s contract nearly having a year left.

After a poor start under Domenico Tedesco this season, Leipzig replaced him with Marco Rose and saw them only lose one match in the league against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This meant they finished the year third after languishing in mid-table before Rose’s hire.
