On Monday, Eintracht Frankfurt learned that they would face Napoli in the round of 16 in the Champions League. Reacting to the tie, SGE sporting director Markus Krösche praised the Serie A leaders.
“Napoli is a tough draw,” said Krösche. “They’re six points clear at the top of Serie A and have an outstanding coach in Luciano Spalletti. They have a lot of quality in their squad and with players like Piotr Zielinski and Giovanni Di Lorenzo, they have a wealth of experience. That said, and with all due respect, we definitely want to reach the quarter-finals. We’re looking forward to the tie from a sporting perspective.”
Frankfurt finished second in their group behind Tottenham Hotspur. In the final matchday they beat Sporting 2-1 with goals from Daichi Kamada and Randal Kolo-Muani to secure their place in the next round.
Napoli finished top of their group with 15 points only losing their last game of the group stage 2-0 away at Liverpool. The Partenopei are also six points clear of second place Milan after 13 games.
