Marco Reus threatened with a long break following ankle injury

Substituted after 32 minutes, Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus suffered an ankle injury during their 1-0 win against Schalke. As reported by Ruhr Nachrichten, the 33-year-old could face several weeks on the sidelines.

“We have to fear that the ligaments are injured,” said Sebastian Kehl. “We hope for Marco and for us that we will have him back with us quickly. When a player like him can’t continue, you know it’s probably worse.

“Still, we hope he was lucky. He deserved that in the last few years when he was very stable. If you look at the scene, it was brutally unfortunate.”

A full diagnosis is expected in the coming days. BVB head coach Edin Terzić added: “I was able to talk to Marco during the half-time break. He was very disappointed and in a lot of pain. He’s no longer in the stadium.”

Dominating possession, Youssoufa Moukoko’s (17) introduction in the second-half has put BVB at the top of the Bundesliga for the time being. The 17-year-old heading the only goal of the game.
