Marc-André ter Stegen to remain in Germany as he recovers from infection

Germany’s Marc-André ter Stegen will not travel with the squad to Oman on Monday after the Barcelona goalkeeper caught a gastrointestinal infection. The 30-year-old will recover from the infection in Frankfurt before travelling, confirm the DFB.

Hansi Flick’s Germany will play Oman on Wednesday night in Muscat before travelling to Doha the following day. Die Mannschaft play their opening Group E game against Japan on November 23 at the Khalifa International Stadium in ar-Rayyan.

Games against Spain (November 27) at the Al Bayt Stadium in al-Khour and Costa Rica (December 1) at the same venue will follow as they look to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Flick will be without Timo Werner, Marco Reus and Lukas Nmecha for the 2022 World Cup and so Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko (17) has been given a first Germany call-up. As the highest scoring German in the Bundesliga this season, Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug also made the 26-man squad.
