Kevin-Prince Boateng will retire in the summer of 2023.
The 35-year-old midfielder recently announced his contract extension with Hertha Berlin as talks about his future were circulating.
During a press conference at the Hertha training camp, the veteran began by saying: “I’m still in the mood to play. I want to gamble a little more. I think you can see that in training too. I don’t even want to talk about whether there will be minutes in the Bundesliga or not. Me, I just want to take it again. I want to take it for another year. The last year was too turbulent, too much action, too many negative headlines, too many negative results. I couldn’t stop like that.”
While talking about his career Boateng announced: “It’s definitely my last season as an active professional footballer. That’s why I want to enjoy every day, no matter what happens. Even if we play the Champions League next year, who knows. That’s my last season. I’ll do it again do everything for the club and for myself too. And then it’s over.”
Boateng played 18 times in the Bundesliga last season and also featured as a key player in Hertha’s play-off win against Hamburg which secured safety.
