Christopher Nkunku set for RB Leipzig return against Real Madrid

As reported by Kicker, Christopher Nkunku, who has had recent wrist surgery, is expected to return to RB Leipzig’s starting XI for their Champions League game against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The Frenchman missed Leipzig’s 4-0 DFB Pokal win against Hamburg in midweek but returned on Saturday against Augsburg in the Bundesliga. Nkunku was introduced in the 59th minute and would score the goal to make it 3-2, before Hugo Novoa secured a point for the Saxon club in the 90th minute.

Dani Olmo also made a comeback against Augsburg, coming on in the 80th minute, following a six week layoff due to a knee injury. The Spaniard is expected to feature against Real Madrid, but only off the bench. Timo Werner is in a similar situation. The German forward has missed Leipzig’s last three games because of an infection and is now behind in training.

After wins against Celtic in the Champions League, RB Leipzig are second in Group F, four points behind Real Madrid and just one point ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk with two games remaining.
