Christopher Nkunku completed a secret Chelsea medical in August

As reported by BILD, RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku (24) completed a secret medical examination in Frankfurt at the end of the August. The Frenchman underwent cardiological checks and an orthopedist from the Premier League club was also present.

Per the report, this wasn’t about joining Chelsea in the summer, but instead in 2023. Nkunku signed a contract extension until 2026 and would be allowed to leave RB Leipzig for a reported €60m.

Fabrice Hawkins, via our colleagues at Get French Football News, is reporting that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to sign Nkunku.

Per BILD‘s report, RB Leipzig is a club familiar with future transfers. They reached an agreement with Liverpool to sell Naby Keita in 2017, but the Guinean would not complete the move until the following summer in 2018.

After selling Timo Werner to the Bundesliga club, Chelsea officials also maintain good contact with RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.
