Chelsea’s Kai Havertz was discussed as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski

As reported by Kerry Hau of Sport1, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić enquired to ROOF agency about the situation of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz at the beginning of the summer.

Bayern’s preference would have been to place Lewandowski at Chelsea, and to bring Havertz to Munich. Salihamidžić has a good relationship with ROOF after signing Sadio Mané.

However, given that Lewandowski only wanted to join Barcelona and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel decided against a move for the 33-year-old early on, this wasn’t a feasible option in the end. Even more so following the contract extension of Serge Gnabry, who shares the same agency as Havertz.

Bayern Munich have long been interested in signing Havertz from his time at Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga champions are also monitoring the situations of Christopher Nkunku and Joao Félix, whilst Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is mentioned for a possible transfer in 2023, should Bayern sign a No. 9.
