Borussia Dortmund’s Niklas Süle will miss the start of the Bundesliga due to injury

Borussia Dortmund will start the new Bundesliga season without defender Niklas Süle due to injury, Kicker confirms.

The new summer signing from Bayern Munich started BVB’s DFB Pokal match against 1860 Munich but had to be substituted at halftime. After the game, Dortmund’s head coach Edin Terzić explained that: “Niklas felt something on his front thigh.”

As reported by Kicker, the central-defender will be missing for two or three weeks and will therefore miss the season’s opening games.

Süle was one of BVB’s key signings this summer as they looked to strengthen their backline which was heavily criticised last season. Despite Süle’s injury, Dortmund still have Mats Hummels to fill the role alongside Nico Schlotterbeck who also arrived this summer from Freiburg.

Dortmund’s campaign begins Saturday evening at 17:30 (GMT) at the Signal Iduna Park against Bayer Leverkusen, who have had a relatively quiet summer with Adam Hložek being the only key arrival.
