Bayern Munich’s Hasan Salihamidžić announces Lucas Hernández extension talks

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has confirmed that they Bundesliga club would like to extend the contract of Lucas Hernández (26) beyond 2024.

“I spoke to his advisor two or three months ago. We’ve met once or twice since then. Just like that, to conduct preliminary talks,” Salihamidžić told BILD. “Lucas feels very comfortable and is a pillar of our team. We are ready and would like to extend with him. We’re going to eat out soon. He’s a super boy and we’re happy that he’s playing for us.”

As reported on Friday, Bayern Munich want to extend the contract of Hernández and the Frenchman can also imagine signing a new deal. The World Cup winner has become an integral member of Julian Nagelsmann’s squad, in terms of leadership, following the departures of David Alaba and Jerome Boateng.

Initial discussions between Bayern Munich officials and representatives of Hernández have already taken place with further talks planned. At the moment, it appears that an extension is likely.

Since the Frenchman’s move from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for a club record €80m, Hernández received criticism with his performances not matching that of a player with such a high transfer fee but alongside compatriot Dayot Upamecano, is now creating a formidable partnership.
