Axel Witsel confirms Borussia Dortmund farewell: “I won’t be there anymore.”

Speaking after Borussia Dortmund’s 4-3 defeat against Bochum on Saturday, defensive-midfielder Axel Witsel confirms his departure from the Westfalenstadion.

“We’re conceding too many goals this season, like the one before. That’s something we need to improve on next season,” said Witsel. “I say ‘we’ because I’m still here, but everyone knows I won’t be there anymore.

“Our story together will end on the last day. I’m sad to be leaving the club, I have a lot of friends and great teammates here. Those were four years of my life, that’s a lot. I’m looking forward to the last game, but I’ll also be really sad.”

The 33-year-old will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
