Agreement in principle between Breel Embolo and AS Monaco

Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Breel Embolo has reached an agreement in principle to join Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, according to Sky Germany.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Monaco had submitted an opening offer for Embolo, Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus last week stated that he is yet to receive any offer for the 25-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract: “The players are back now, we will talk to everyone. It’s clear that something can happen but we currently have no enquiries.”

It’s thought that Monaco had submitted an offer in the low double-digit million range for Embolo, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. However, negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing and it’s suggested that the Bundesliga side want at least €10m.

The Switzerland international joined Borussia Mönchengladbach from Schalke in 2019 for €11m and has played 106 games across all competitions, scoring 25 and creating 20. As well as Embolo, Yann Sommer, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Pléa all have 12 months remaining on their current contracts.
