According to Sky Germany, Schalke have been offered 21-year-old Southampton right-back Yan Valery.
The Frenchman has a contract with the Premier League club until 2023 but would be available on a loan deal, with an option to purchase permanently having fallen out of favour with Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Valery is yet to play in the Premier League this season after playing 11 games for Southampton in 2019/20.
Actively searching for a right-back, Schalke have also shown an interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Mitchell Weiser, who came close to leaving Bayer in the summer.
