Mats Hummels on Youssoufa Moukoko: “He’s one of the best players I’ve played with at that age.”

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has praised the development of 16-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko and the mentality of BVB’s young players.

“He is already really good,” Hummels told Sport Bild. “I played with Toni Kroos, Mario Götze and Christian Pulisic when they were 16 or 17 and Youssoufa is definitely one of the best players I’ve played with at that age.

“When I looked at the likes of Erling Braut Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Youssoufa Moukoko, they are all young players with a lot of determination, who know what it takes to win on the pitch.”

After a change in the rules, Moukoko became the Bundesliga’s youngest ever player in November just one day after his 16th birthday, he would then go on to score his first Borussia Dortmund goal just weeks later.

Moukoko has played 246 minutes of Bundesliga football this season and has also made a 32 minute cameo in the Champions League against Zenit St. Petersburg.
