Omar Richards in agreement to sign long-term Bayern Munich contract

Reading defender Omar Richards has agreed to join Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer, according to Kicker and Sport1.

The 23-year-old reached an agreement with Bayern Munich but is yet to undergo a medical which could yet take a few weeks, due to health regulations and quarantining regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

Per Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and chief scout Marco Neppe put a lot of effort into the negotiations for Richards, who will sign a long-term contract and act as an immediate back-up to Alphonso Davies.

The left-back has played 89 games in all competitions for Reading and has also operated at centre-back, making Richards an exciting player for Bayern Munich.

Richards will become Bayern Munich’s second signing after the Bundesliga champions activated the €42.5m release clause in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano’s contract.

The 22-year-old France international has agreed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich and will join the club in the summer.
