David Alaba to leave Bayern Munich: “It wasn’t an easy decision.”

Speaking at an unscheduled press conference, 28-year-old defender David Alaba has confirmed his exit from Bayern Munich when his contract expires in the summer.

“I have personally made the decision to try something new after this season and to leave the club,” said Alaba. “It wasn’t an easy decision, I’ve been here for 13 years and the club is very important to me. I haven’t yet decided where I’m going.”

The Austria international has confirmed interest from several clubs but is taking time before making a decision on his next club: “It’s no secret that my management is in contact with other clubs but there are many factors involved. I will give it a lot of thought. Where can I continue to play successful football ?That will influence my decision.”

Speaking to reporters, Alaba confirmed that he wanted a new challenge after failing to reach a contract agreement with Bayern Munich: “I’m looking for a new challenge but it wasn’t a financial decision. I still have six to seven years of playing left and now I want to try something new.

“In the next few months I will give everything and throw it all in the balance to help the team to be successful. That is the goal of the whole club and it also defined Bayern Munich. They want to be at the top every year.”

Although no confirmation on his next club, Alaba has interest from Premier League clubs Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea but has a dream to play for Real Madrid.

Alaba also discussed Frenchman Dayot Upamecano, who will join Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in the summer: “It’s no secret that he has a lot of potential, that he is robust and has good build-up play. He’s a player who’s developed extremely very.”
