Official | RB Leipzig to sign Mohamed Simakan, 5-year contract

RB Leipzig have announced the signing of 20-year-old French defender Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €18 million.

“I chose to join RB Leipzig because I think the club is best for my career. Here, I can continue developing in the best possible way, where I will be challenged every day,” Simakan told the club’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to the Bundesliga, to Leipzig and to meeting my teammates and fans. I spoke to a few players already while I was making my mind up and they only had good things to say. I want to integrate as quickly as possible and play my part in helping the club achieve it’s big goals.”

Simakan has played 44 games in all competitions for Strasbourg and will join the Bundesliga side in summer. The Frenchman, who can operate centrally or on the right-side of defence, will replace Dayot Upamecano, who will join Bayern Munich in the summer.
