Marco Rose: “We want to write our own history in this competition.”

Speaking to media ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League fixture against Besiktas on Wednesday evening, head coach Marco Rose discussed Donyell Malen and BVB’s chances in the European competition.

“We’ve got off to a respectable start in the cup and the Bundesliga. Now it’s time for the Champions League too. The lads have put together a fantastic run of results at the end of last season to get here, because they wanted to play in games like these,” said Rose.

“We want to write our own history in this competition. We’ll have to be right on it from the start tomorrow if we want to do so.”

Giving an update on the squad, Donyell Malen could start on Wednesday evening against Besiktas: “Donny is an exceptionally good footballer,” said Rose. “He’s had a bit of work to do on his fitness level but you can see him getting there.

“He’s integrated himself well and has played his part in all of our games so far. We’re giving him the time he needs and we’re challenging him and encouraging him.”
