Bayern Munich are in discussions to sign 27-year-old Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from fellow Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, according to Bild.
Despite reports suggesting that the Bundesliga champions are in advanced negotiations, Florian Plettenberg of Sport1 notes that these are off that mark and that no agreement is in sight, but Bayern’s interest is genuine.
However, Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann could well imagine working with his former player whilst RB Leipzig would be open to selling Sabitzer, should they receive a suitable offer given he has 12 months remaining on his current deal.
During the summer, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur showed an interest in signing Sabitzer whilst it remains unlikely that he will sign a contract extension with RB Leipzig.
Despite this, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff will still have talks regarding a potential extension, telling Sky Germany: “Sabi it our captain, who did a great job for us and our club. So it would be nice if he stayed with us. We will now calmly, without panic, start the talks with him and his agent and then we will see in which direction this will develop.”
