Julian Nagelsmann on Barcelona: “They’ve no longer got someone as extravagant as Messi.”

Speaking to the media ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League fixture against Barcelona on Tuesday, head coach Julian Nagelsmann provided a squad update and playing a Barcelona side without Lionel Messi.

“They’ve no longer got someone as extravagant as Messi, but they have other players who can make a difference,” said Nagelsmann. “They have other players who play an important role like Frenkie de Jong and Pedri. We are prepared for everything. I’m not of the opinion that they are worse off now. In any case, we definitely want three points.”

French midfielder Corentin Tolisso will remain in Munich after training individually whilst Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman all travel.

“Gnabry will travel, Tolisso will not,” said Nagelsmann. “Coman is in the squad but not an option to start. We’ll have to wait and see about Serge as well. It’s looking good for Lewandowski again though.

“Bouna Sarr was also involved in training yesterday. I’ll make a decision along with the medical team tomorrow.”

Speaking on Bayern’s chances in the competition, Nagelsmann believes his players are hungry for victory: “This is the most coveted trophy in European football. I think the players all really want to win it for the club again.”
