Jérôme Boateng no closer to Bayern Munich contract extension

According to Kicker, 32-year-old German defender Jérôme Boateng is no closer to signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich.

Like David Alaba, Boateng’s contract expires at the end of the current season and despite good enough performances, Bayern Munich are hesitating on extending the contract of Boateng.

Discussions will continue to take place in March and per the report, one workaround to a new contract for Boateng is if the German would be happy with the role of a backup.

Bayern Munich are planning to work with current defenders Niklas Süle, Lucas Hernández and Tanguy Nianzou and with the Bundesliga champions working on a deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano in the summer, Boateng’s future looks uncertain.

Boateng has played all but two Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich this season and has re-established himself in the squad after a drop in form saw the German almost join Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2018.
