Ralf Rangnick believes Dayot Upamecano is ready for Bayern Munich

Speaking on Sport1-Doppelpass, former RB Leipzig head coach and sporting director Ralf Rangnick believes 22-year-old French defender Dayot Upamecano is ready for Bayern Munich.

“Why not? Bayern Munich know this player well. Physically, Bayern saw that in direct duels, no one will run away from him,” said Rangnick. “He might still play one or two risky balls but he will certainly learn in a few years.

“I got to know Upamecano and his family over many years. They not only make decisions that sound good to them in terms of his image but they also make decisions based on the feeling of what is best for the player himself.”

With just one-year remaining on his previous contract, the France international signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig until 2023 – meaning that any potential suitor would now have to pay a substantial fee to sign Upamecano, with Julian Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig not having any reason to sell.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also shown concrete interest in the French defender in the past year.
