Michael Zorc on Borussia Dortmund defeat: “We’re not as far along as we had hoped.”

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has reacted to the club’s 2-1 defeat to FC Köln on Saturday, admitting that BVB lacked the intensity that they have seen in previous games.

“In many areas we didn’t perform as well as we have done in the past weeks,” said Zorc. “We weren’t able to get our attacking players, especially our wide players, into dangerous situations. That’s why we were unable to put pressure on FC Köln.

“We’re obviously not as far along as we had hoped and as we ourselves believed. Maybe we couldn’t handle praise that well.”

25-year-old Ellyes Skhiri gave FC Köln a 2-0 lead before Thorgan Hazard got a goal back for Borussia Dortmund 15 minutes from time. Both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig picked up three points on Saturday which now sees Lucien Favre’s side four points behind Bayern.

“I’m very disappointed,” said Favre. “They waited and we lost our patience a bit. Sometimes we played in a hurry but our passes should have been faster. The right movement was also missing.”
