Gio Reyna to sign long-term Borussia Dortmund contract

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna has agreed a new long-term contract extension with the Bundesliga side, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.

The 17-year-old is expected to sign a contract at BVB until at least 2024, which could be made official on Friday, on the American’s 18th birthday – or once he returns from international duty.

Reyna has played 30 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund since making his debut in January 2020, scoring three and assisting seven. The young attacking midfielder is expected to make his international debut for USA on Thursday evening against Wales.

“People ask me about Gio. I say for a high school senior, he’s doing just fine,” his father, Claudio Reyna told Washington Post. “At that age, I was playing in the state championships, he’s running out into Champions League games.”

When questioned about his call-up to the national team, Gio added: “I’ve never really had time to fully think about everything that’s happened. When I thin about it, something esle happens. I’m more of a person who looks to the future. I’m never really satisfied.”
