Speaking after Werder Bremen’s 2-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart, German forward Davie Selke lashed out at the unsportsmanlike conduct from VfB attacker Silas Wamangituka.
“That’s just disrespectful,” said Selke. “He had a good game and scored two goals. He should have simply put the ball over the line and celebrated his goal instead of loafing around like that.”
After a mistake between Ömer Toprak and Jiri Pavlenka, Stuttgart forward Wamangituka capitalised on an open goal but instead of shooting straight away, the 21-year-old trotted forward and waited at the goal line until Pavlenka hurried him up.
Werder Bremen pulled a goal back in stoppage time but it was too late: “We were up and applying pressure,” added Selke. “In my opinion, it was only a matter of time before the ball went in. That’s why [the second goal] was extremely frustrating.”
Bremen have now dropped down to 12th but could drop down a further place should Hoffenheim beat Augsburg on Monday night.
