Bayern Munich move ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Dayot Upamecano

Bayern Munich have moved ahead of Premier League side Manchester United in the race to sign 22-year-old RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to David Ornstein.

The France international signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig during the summer until 2023 but a €42 million release clause comes into effect at the end of the season, allowing Upamecano to leave should a club meet RBL’s valuation.

With David Alaba and Jérôme Boateng yet to sign a contract extension, the defensive duo are seemingly on their way out given that their contracts expire in June 2021 – both are free to hold talks with clubs in January ahead of a free transfer.

Because of this, Bayern Munich and head coach Hansi Flick will want to sign replacements in the summer with Upamecano nearing the top of their list.

The Frenchman has become an important player for RB Leipzig, playing 129 games in all competitions and has established himself as one of the hottest defensive talents in football.
