Alexander Nübel stripped of Schalke captaincy following Bayern Munich announcement

Alexander Nübel has been stripped of his captaincy at Schalke following the announcement that the German stopper will join Bayern Munich on five-year contract in the summer.

“We looked at all the pros and cons and decided that it’s better for the team if he gives up the armband. This way we avoid constant unrest. Alex remains an important member of the group. We need to continue to completely support every player,” said Schalke head coach David Wagner.

Nübel will join Hansi Flick’s Bayern on a free transfer when his Schalke contract expires.
