Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker has signed a new one-year contract extension at the Premier League club, says manager Arsene Wenger.
The former Germany international was linked with a move back to Werder Bremen once his contract expires, but the 32-year-old will now remain in London until 2018.
Mertesacker has played 207 games for Arsenal in all competitions, helping them win two FA Cup titles and a Community Shield.
