Jerome Boateng and Douglas Costa return to training

Jerome Boateng and Douglas Costa have both returned to training for Bayer Munich, following recent injury problems, according to Kicker.

Boateng, who suffered a muscle bundle tear in the European Championship semi-final match against France, resumed light training yesterday at Bayern’s training facilities. The defender is certain to miss this Sunday’s Supercup match against Borussia Dortmund and is not expected to be fully fit before the start of the Bundesliga or the DFB Cup first round.

Boateng joined Douglas Costa out on the running track under the watchful eye of Bayern’s rehab coach, Thomas Wilhelmi, who was assessing Costa’s progress following his recent hamstring problems.

Costa then went on to the training centre where he underwent an individual session alongside Xavi Alonso, who is expected to return to full training today. It is likely that Alonso will be available to play this weekend, taking the pressure of Carlos Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, Franck Ribery has returned to full training for the first time since being treated for the adductor problem that plagued him through the second half of last season. He is expected to make the squad for the weekend’s game.
