Elversberg head coach Vincent Wagner has stated that he has been a long-time Borussia Dortmund fan, when asked if there is a club he would ideally like to manage in the future.
“I’ve got to be careful what I say now. [laughs] I’ve been a Borussia Dortmund fan since the 1995/1996 season. But at the moment, I can’t quite imagine myself standing on the touchline there. I’m happy at Elversberg and glad to be a Bundesliga manager – because I love my job,” he told BILD.
When asked if he had any coaching idols, he responded: “I try to play football holistically. The intensity and passion of Klopp, coupled with the tactical understanding and meticulousness of Pep Guardiola – there are many to look up to.”
After gaining promotion to the Bundesliga, Elversberg have had a good start to the season. Despite losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich at the weekend, the club, with a town of just over 7000 residents have put on impressive displays in their games so far.
On opening matchday, the minnows shocked Bayer Leverkusen with a 3-2 win, then followed it up with a 4-3 triumph over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Wagner has been receiving praise for how he set up the team as they seek to ensure their Bundesliga survival. It is also inevitable that his name will be linked with bigger teams if his side keeps up the performance.
