Stuttgart tried to sign Fabio Silva before his move to Borussia Dortmund

VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has revealed that the Swabians wanted to sign Portuguese forward Fabio Silva before his move to Borussia Dortmund. “We looked into him a year ago,” he stated on his appearance on Sky 90.

Silva joined Dortmund in the summer of 2025 from then English Premier League side Wolves for €22.5m. After a somewhat below-par first season at Signal Iduna Park, the 24-year-old has made a strong start this season.

On Matchday 3, Silva was in the starting line-up for Niko Kovac’s side alongside fellow striker Serhou Guirassy. It only took five minutes for him to find the back of the net as he helped the Black and Yellows to a 3-0 win against Paderborn.

“He’s obviously having a good spell, and Dortmund can be happy to have him,” Wohlgemuth acknowledged in the interview.

During the summer, there were rumours that Silva could possibly be on the move away from Dortmund, but the club will be glad they kept him, as he has managed to repay the coach’s trust so far this season. Stuttgart, on the other hand, will be wondering about what could have been.
