Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac stated that he is not happy with the new international break format. Speaking ahead of Friday’s game against Werder Bremen, the Dortmund coach said: “It’s clear that this break, or these four games, are definitely too many. That has to be said quite clearly.
“As a former national coach, I naturally understand the urgency to score points and be successful, but I preferred the old system,” he added.
Kovac emphasised that the team has lost its rhythm because of the new schedule and the old format is more suitable.
Julian Ryerson, Nico Schlotterbeck and Carney Chukwuemeka are all doubts ahead of the Bremen game. The coach stated that they will wait and see whether Ryerson and Schlotterbeck will be able to make it, while Chukwuemeka has returned with muscular issues from his stay with the Austrian national team.
