VfB Stuttgart have officially completed the signing of Germany U21 striker Dzenan Pejcinovic from VfL Wolfsburg following several weeks of difficult negotiations between the two Bundesliga clubs. Both Stuttgart and relegated Wolfsburg confirmed the transfer on Monday. The 21-year-old has signed a long-term contract through June 2031, with Stuttgart reportedly paying approximately €25m for his services. The move concludes one of the summer’s more protracted Bundesliga transfer sagas.
Get German Football News reported on Saturday that Stuttgart and Wolfsburg had finally reached an agreement after VfB saw several previous offers rejected. Stuttgart initially failed with a proposal worth approximately €18m before raising their bid to around €22m. A third offer containing just under €23.5m in guaranteed money and bonuses capable of taking the package beyond €25m also initially fell short of Wolfsburg’s demands.
Pejčinović nevertheless remained determined to join Stuttgart despite interest from other clubs.
Dzenan Pejcinovic adds to Stuttgart striker corps
The Munich native now joins an attacking department already containing Germany internationals Ermedin Demirovic and Deniz Undav. Stuttgart require considerable depth ahead of a season involving Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal commitments, and Pejcinovic provides both another immediate option and a long-term developmental project.
The 1.90-metre striker scored 12 goals across all competitions for Wolfsburg last season, including eight in 30 Bundesliga appearances. Wolfsburg originally signed Pejcinović from Augsburg in 2022 after the forward had previously spent time in Bayern Munich’s academy. His development over the past two seasons now enables Wolfsburg to collect a substantial fee for a player who had initially struggled for regular Bundesliga minutes.

The transfer could also carry implications at international level. Pejcinovic has represented Germany at every youth level from the U16s onward and boasts an impressive record of 41 goals in 49 youth international appearances. His next ambition is to push towards the senior national team under Jürgen Klopp.

“We agreed internally very early on that we wanted to sign Dzenan Pejcinovic,” Stuttgart Board Member for Sport Fabian Wohlgemuth said. “We are convinced by his footballing abilities. He immediately gives us a valuable option in attack while still possessing significant development potential. It is also a great signal that a player who was highly sought-after on the market decided to join us.”
“I can hardly wait to get started at VfB. I’m hugely excited,” Pejčinović said. “I already know some of the players from the German youth national teams. After the discussions with those responsible, I didn’t have to think for long when the opportunity to join Stuttgart arose.”
